On paper, the ones with a lifetime guarantee and parts for sale: Pelican Elite coolers are “guaranteed for life” on Pelican's product pages, and Engel puts 10 years on its High Performance line with a stainless latch kit, plugs and feet sold separately. For the 5-year term, the parts catalog and the resale value, often yes; for measured ice hours per dollar, usually no. OutdoorGearLab measured the Tundra 45 at 4.1 days and the $239 RTIC 45 at 4.6 in the same lab, on the same 5-year term. The Roadie 48 is the exception: longest hold in that test. RTIC's Ultra-Tough line (rotomolded, 5-year term, parts sold), Engel's High Performance line (10-year term), Pelican Elite (lifetime), and for less money Lifetime's 55-quart (5-year term, no measured test). See coolers like Yeti but cheaper and cooler brands ranked.

By measured hours: the YETI Roadie 48 (6.8 days below 40°F at OutdoorGearLab), the RTIC 52 Ultra-Light (5.8 days) and the RTIC 65 (5.5 days). With a realistic one-third ice load, Outdoor Life measured 109–122 hours for its top coolers, so plan on four to five days. See best coolers for camping.

A hard cooler holds ice two to three times longer in the same tests (4–7 days vs 1.5–3.6 days) and carries a 5-year to lifetime term; a soft cooler weighs a fifth as much and usually gets 1 year, 3 for YETI's Hopper. The ones with a welded liner and a waterproof zipper or a magnetic or roll-top closure: YETI's Hopper M20, RTIC's Ultra-Tough Backpack, Engel's roll-top BP25. A fabric-zipper backpack (RTIC's Lightweight, for one) is not built for loose ice and RTIC says so. See best backpack coolers.

By the makers' own published figures, Klean Kanteen's TKWide (“iced up to 66 hours”) and Stanley's IceFlow and ProTour (“iced for 2 days”). Treeline's daily-use test put the Owala FreeSip and Purist Mover at a full day of cold water. See best tumblers for cold drinks.

For the 5-year term and the lid catalog, yes; it is the tumbler you replace lids on, not the tumbler you replace. YETI publishes no hour figure and the MagSlider is not leakproof, so a Stanley ProTour or a Klean Kanteen wins on stated retention and leakproofing. See Rambler vs Quencher.

Measured, not claimed: the Tundra 45 reached 40°F at 98 hours in OutdoorGearLab's controlled test; the Roadie 48 held below 40°F for 6.8 days there and 115 hours at one-third ice in Outdoor Life's test; the Tundra Haul 5.4 days. See how long a Yeti keeps ice.

Only in one rated for it: OutdoorGearLab lists the Tundra Haul as dry-ice compatible, Engel says its High Performance coolers are, and AO Coolers says dry ice can crack its soft liner. Never seal it airtight and never in a soft cooler. See dry ice in a cooler.
