The Yeti warranty explained: what 5 years and 3 years cover, what they exclude, and how a claim works

Yeti's warranty document is short and specific. Here it is, clause by clause, with the product groups, the conditions, the exclusions and the claim steps, quoted rather than summarized.

Warranty terms as of Sep 21, 2026. Every term on this page was read from the manufacturer's own warranty page on that date, and each is linked. Brands change terms without notice (RTIC's hard-cooler term has moved more than once): confirm on the linked page before you buy, and tell us if a term has changed.

The two groups

From the document, under “WARRANTY PERIOD”: “FIVE YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD: YETI Tundra | YETI Roadie | YETI TANK | YETI Silo | YETI ICE | YETI Rambler | YETI LoadOut | YETI Hondo | YETI Boomer Dog Bowl. THREE YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD: YETI Hopper | YETI Panga | YETI Camino | YETI SideKick Dry | YETI Tocayo | YETI Lowlands Blanket.” The split is hard goods versus soft goods: every rotomolded cooler and every piece of stainless drinkware is five years; every soft cooler and bag is three. Newer lines not in this list (the Daytrip line, for one) are not quoted here, and the products that carry them say so.

The four conditions

“In order for your warranty claim to be approved, the following conditions must be met: You must have purchased the product from a YETI authorized dealer; You must provide proof as to the date of purchase from the YETI authorized dealer; You must return the product to YETI; and You must have used the product only as intended and in accordance with the product's care instructions.” Two practical consequences. A Yeti bought secondhand, or from a seller Yeti does not authorize, has no term; and you will ship the cooler back, which is why Yeti sends a prepaid label. The warranty also “is only available in the United States.”

The exclusions

“The warranty does not cover defects caused by third-party modifications, repairs, or replacement parts. Punctures, scratches, normal wear and tear, and the natural breakdown of colors and materials over extended time and use are not warranted.” Read that against how a cooler actually fails: a latch that stretches in year four is normal wear; a gasket that dries is normal wear; a lid that cracks at the hinge in year two is arguably a defect. A generic T-latch from Amazon, fitted to save $10, voids coverage on the whole cooler by the third-party-parts clause. The document also covers the remedy: “we will repair or replace, at our discretion, the defective product or part,” and if a limited-edition color is gone, “the equivalent model based on availability.”

How a claim works

  1. “Warranty claims must be submitted by completing our Warranty Claim Form.”
  2. “An Outfitter on our warranty team will respond back within 2-3 business days following a review of your request.”
  3. “If your warranty claim is approved, you will be supplied with a Return Material Authorization number (RMA#) and a pre-paid shipping label.”
  4. “Products must be returned directly to YETI in adequate cardboard packaging. A copy of the original sales receipt and the RMA# must be included with the product.”

That is a real process with a prepaid label, which is more than RTIC's chart specifies (RTIC gives a phone number). The RTIC warranty explained is the comparison; Yeti vs RTIC puts the terms beside the ice figures.

Replacement parts

The same document opens with a section headed “YETI REPLACEMENT PARTS”: “whether you misplaced your favorite cap, need to upgrade your T-latches, or had an unexpected run-in with spear guns, bucking bulls, or a fiery barbecue pit, rest assured we have a wide selection of replacement parts ready to do damage control. Shop replacement parts by category below.” That is the buy-once half of the Yeti proposition: the term covers defects, and the parts catalog covers wear. Yeti replacement parts lists what is sold, and the third-party-parts exclusion above is the reason to buy Yeti's.

How we scored this

Units we claim to have tested: 0

Plenty of sites say they filled every cooler on this list with ice and watched it for a week. We don't say that, and we say so on every page. What we do instead: read the maker's published capacity, insulation, dimensions and weight; quote the warranty term from the maker's own warranty page with the date we read it; check whether the latches, gaskets, plugs, lids and straws are sold as parts; and cite the third-party ice-retention tests (OutdoorGearLab, Outdoor Life, Treeline, Outside, Gear Patrol) as their measurements, never ours. Every figure links to where it came from.

Scores are editorial judgments from that documented research, not lab results. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.

Questions

Frequently asked

How long is the Yeti cooler warranty?

Five years on Tundra and Roadie hard coolers; three years on Hopper soft coolers, per YETI's warranty document.

Do Yeti coolers have a lifetime warranty?

No. Five years on hard coolers and Rambler drinkware, three on soft coolers. Pelican is the brand with a lifetime term.

What does the Yeti warranty not cover?

“Punctures, scratches, normal wear and tear, and the natural breakdown of colors and materials,” and defects caused by third-party modifications, repairs or replacement parts. Commercial use and secondhand purchases are also outside it.

How do I make a Yeti warranty claim?

Complete YETI's Warranty Claim Form; YETI responds in 2–3 business days; if approved you get an RMA number and a prepaid shipping label and return the product with the receipt.

Are Yeti replacement parts free?

Under an approved claim YETI repairs or replaces the defective part at its discretion. Outside a claim, YETI sells parts, and its own document advertises the catalog.

We don't claim to have tested these coolers or tumblers and we don't pretend to. Units we claim to have tested: 0. Specs come from the maker's own product pages (linked on every product), warranty terms from the maker's warranty page with the date we read it, and ice-retention measurements are attributed to whoever made them. Amazon prices change often, so we don't print them. Where a figure isn't published, we say so. Read the full method.
