Independence

Chill & Chest is published by Iron Mako Media and funded by affiliate commissions, mostly through Amazon Associates. No brand pays for placement, no brand reviews a page before it runs, and no product is ranked higher because it earns more. The rubric is fixed before scoring and published with its weights on the methodology page.

How products are chosen

We start from the models named by the third-party testers we follow (OutdoorGearLab, Outdoor Life, Treeline Review, Outside, Gear Patrol, Switchback Travel, Pack Hacker, CleverHiker) and from the brands whose warranty terms are the site's reason to exist (Pelican, Engel, YETI, RTIC, Igloo, Stanley, Owala, Klean Kanteen, Simple Modern). We exclude products with no manufacturer or authorized-dealer page we can read, because we can't verify their specs or warranty, and products the maker no longer lists. Every product must be currently sold on Amazon, which is where the buy buttons point.

Sourcing

• Specs come from the maker's product page, or an authorized dealer's page when the maker blocks fetches, with the date read; each spec on a card links to its source.
• Warranty terms are quoted from the maker's warranty page with the date read. If we can't read the page, the product says “unverified” and its warranty score reflects that.
• Ice-retention measurements are attributed to whoever made them, in the sentence that uses them (“OutdoorGearLab measured 6.8 days”). Maker claims are labeled as claims.
• Prices are live and dated. Each pick shows its Amazon price with the date it was last checked; if that check goes stale the number is dropped and the button goes straight to the current price instead.

How picks are chosen

Every pick is chosen from manufacturer specifications, warranty documents, published parts catalogues and the named third-party ice-retention tests cited on the page.

Writing and tools

Pages are written and edited by Iron Mako Media. Software is used for research and drafting; every figure is checked against its linked source before it is published, and the author is responsible for every sentence.

Corrections and updates

If a spec, term or claim is wrong, email contact@chillandchest.com or use the contact form. We re-check the source, fix the page, and record the change in that page's “Corrections & updates” log. If the source changed (a shortened warranty term, a discontinued model), we update the page and note the date. Every roundup and comparison is re-read at least once a year, and the “2026” in a title is refreshed each spring when the page is.

Style

US English, plain punctuation, no exclamation points. Numerals with units and a source. Written for people who want to buy once; we skip the lifestyle copy and lead with the decision.
