Only one hard-cooler maker puts 'life' on the product page where we could read it. Six coolers ranked on the term and everything else, with the 10-year Engel included because ten years with a parts kit beats a lifetime with none.

Who says “life”
On a page we could read on 2026-09-21: Pelican, on every Elite cooler product page, in the product copy and again in a “Guarantee of Excellence” block. Arctic Zone, on its warranty page, for its soft goods (“defects in workmanship or materials that arise during the lifetime of the product”), with rotomolded hard coolers carved out at 5 years. RTIC, for hard cases only, not coolers. On a page we could not read: ORCA, whose lifetime term is reported by retailers and by Switchback Travel and whose own site rendered no text. Not lifetime, but close: Engel, 10 years on High Performance hard coolers, quoted from its warranty page, with a stainless latch kit and plugs sold as parts. Everyone else is 5 years or less. What lifetime excludes
The Engel argument for second place: a defects term is only useful if the thing that fails is a defect. Latches and gaskets wear; that is not a defect under any term here. Engel sells the latch and the plug, so an Engel that wears is a $20 fix in year eight of a 10-year term. Pelican's parts availability is unverified, so a worn Pelican latch in year eight is a question for Pelican. Pelican vs Yeti and Engel vs Yeti compare each against the 5-year benchmark.
The Titan Deep Freeze is here because it is the only soft cooler whose maker prints a lifetime term on a page we could read, and it measured 2.1 days at OutdoorGearLab for $70. It is not leakproof and it is not a hard cooler; it is a lifetime-term picnic cooler, and that is a real category.

Find the conditions before you rely on them
Pelican's are on a support page; ask Pelican or read it in a browser. A term you have not read is a term you do not have.
Keep the receipt forever
Every term here requires the original purchaser and proof of purchase. A lifetime is a long time to keep a PDF; email it to yourself.
Weigh it
Pelican's lifetime comes at 26.5–43.7 lb empty. The Engel 65 is 24 lb on 10 years.
Buy the parts anyway
Wear is excluded everywhere. Latch, gasket and drain plug replacement is the plan for the failures a term does not cover.
And check the ice
A lifetime cooler that holds ice poorly is a lifetime of disappointment. Only the 45QW here has a measured figure; the ice retention chart has everything measured.

Plenty of sites say they filled every cooler on this list with ice and watched it for a week. We don't say that, and we say so on every page. What we do instead: read the maker's published capacity, insulation, dimensions and weight; quote the warranty term from the maker's own warranty page with the date we read it; check whether the latches, gaskets, plugs, lids and straws are sold as parts; and cite the third-party ice-retention tests (OutdoorGearLab, Outdoor Life, Treeline, Outside, Gear Patrol) as their measurements, never ours. Every figure links to where it came from.
Scores are editorial judgments from that documented research, not lab results. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.

Frequently asked
What coolers have a lifetime warranty?
Pelican Elite hard coolers (“Guaranteed for life” on each product page) and Arctic Zone soft coolers (limited lifetime on soft goods). ORCA's is reported by retailers; we could not read the maker's page. Engel gives 10 years, not lifetime.
Is a lifetime cooler warranty worth it?
If you keep coolers, yes: it is the last cooler purchase on paper. It covers defects, not wear, so a parts page matters too; Engel's 10 years with parts sold is the honest alternative.
Does Yeti have a lifetime warranty?
No: 5 years on Tundra and Roadie, 3 on Hopper, per YETI's warranty document.
Does RTIC have a lifetime warranty?
Only on hard cases. RTIC coolers are 5 years (Ultra-Tough), 3 (Ultra-Light) or 1 (soft).
