The actual job
Grocery insulation is a short-duration problem. The window that matters is the 20 to 90 minutes between the checkout and your freezer, in a car that may be 120°F inside. Nothing on this page needs to hold ice for three days, which is why the expensive roll-top coolers are the wrong purchase here and a $30 tote is often the right one.
What does matter, in order: a liner that survives a leaking pack of chicken, an interior wide enough to take a paper sack upright so the eggs stay level, low weight because you are carrying it with the other bags, and storage that does not mean a permanent cooler taking up your trunk. Cold hours come fifth, and that ranking is what separates this page from every other cooler roundup on this site.
The liner decides everything
That distinction is the practical one. A bag with a sealed liner and an ordinary zipper will hold a puddle of meat juice as long as it stays upright; tip it in the trunk and it leaks at the zipper. That sounds like a detail and it is the whole product: a tote that folds lives in the car door pocket and gets used every shop, while a rigid cooler lives in the garage and gets used at Christmas. If you shop weekly, buy the one that folds even at the cost of a third of a day of cold.
Two habits matter more than any bag here. First, put the frozen items together in the middle, wrapped in the paper sack, so they cool each other; scattering frozen goods between warm produce doubles the surface area losing cold. Second, keep a frozen block pack in your freezer and throw it in the bag on the way out, not on the way back. An ice pack put in cold does the work; a bag pre-chilled by nothing does not. Buyer's guide: the grocery bag
Measure a paper sack, not a can count
Can counts are marketing. A grocery bag wants an interior around 16 inches wide and 13 inches tall so a sack stands upright; the Titan tote is 16.75 × 7.75 × 13.25 inches inside.
Buy a liner you can wipe
Leak-proof and smooth beats quilted and absorbent. Antimicrobial treatment (Microban on the Titan) is a genuine benefit in a bag that carries raw meat weekly.
Weight is carried, not driven
Empty weights here run 1.65 to 2.8 lb. You are lifting this with three other bags; a heavy cooler gets left behind.
Zippers leak, liners do not
If the bag will be tipped, buy zipperless or a roll-top. If it always travels upright, a sealed liner with a normal zipper is fine.
Then check the term

Do I need ice in a grocery cooler bag?
