The math
“For the money” usually means cheap. Here it means what a year of ownership costs, which is the maker's list price on the day we read it divided by the number of years the maker promises to fix it. That is not a perfect measure (a warranty covers defects, not abuse, and every term has exclusions) but it is the only measure that puts a $85 cooler and a $311 cooler on the same axis a buy-once buyer cares about. List prices below are the maker's on 2026-09-21 and are used only for the arithmetic; the buy buttons carry the live Amazon price with the date it was last checked, because that is what you will actually pay today.

On ice per dollar, RTIC is not close to anyone, and the Ultra-Light 52 (5.8 days, $229) is better still if you accept 3 years instead of 5. Buyer's guide: spending it once
Buy the term, then the ice
Between two coolers within a day of each other on ice, buy the longer term. Between two coolers with the same term, buy the one whose parts are for sale. Between two coolers with the same term and parts, buy the cheaper one; the RTIC 45 and Tundra 45 are that pair, and Tundra 45 vs RTIC 45 is the page.
Buy from an authorized seller
RTIC's warranty excludes eBay and unauthorized retailers; YETI's requires an authorized dealer and a receipt. A cheap cooler from the wrong seller has no term at all.
Don't buy quarts you won't fill
The Polar 120 is the most quarts per dollar on the site and holds ice worse half-empty than a full 45. Size it first.
And put the savings into ice packs

The RTIC 65 Ultra-Tough: $269 list, 5-year term ($54 a covered year), 5.5 measured days at OutdoorGearLab, and latches, gaskets and plugs sold as parts. The RTIC 45 is the same case at $239.
Is a $100 cooler good enough?
For ice, often: the Igloo Trailmate 50 led Outdoor Life's test and the Coleman Classic 65 measured 4.7 days. For years, no: Igloo gives 1 and Coleman's term could not be read.
Is a lifetime warranty worth paying for?
On a cooler you keep, yes: the Pelican 50QT's $311 is the last cooler purchase on paper. The trade is 32 lb and no measured ice figure for that model. See lifetime-warranty coolers.
Why isn't Yeti on this list?
Because on price per covered year it loses to RTIC at the same 5-year term, and on ice per dollar it loses to RTIC and Coleman. The Roadie 48 is the best cooler on the site; it is not the best for the money.
