The verdict
Ultra-Tough vs Ultra-Light
Ultra-Tough is RTIC's rotomolded line (20, 45, 65, 110, 145 QT, plus wheeled 45 and 65): one seamless shell, up to 2.4–2.9 in of closed-cell foam depending on size, a freezer-style gasket, silicone T-latches and marine-grade rope handles. 5-year term. Ultra-Light is the injection-molded line (22, 32, 52, 72 QT, plus wheeled 52 and 72): two shells with up to 3 in of foam between, an O-ring gasket, “up to 30% lighter than rotomolded coolers of similar capacities.” 3-year term. The Ultra-Light 52 measured 5.8 days at OutdoorGearLab, the most of any RTIC and more than any YETI Tundra, at 21 lb. The Ultra-Tough 65 measured 5.5 at 37.7 lb. RTIC's own naming tells you what the trade is.

RTIC's chart, read 2026-09-21: Ultra-Tough hard coolers 5 years; Ultra-Light hard coolers 3; soft-sided coolers 1; duffles, totes, backpack coolers, wagons and chairs 1; day coolers 90 days; drinkware 90 days; gear and accessories 90 days; hard cases limited lifetime. Conditions: “valid for the original retail purchaser and is not transferable and only applies if purchased directly from RTIC, on our website rticoutdoors.com, or from an Authorized Retail Partner.” Exclusions: normal wear, chips, scratches, fading, abuse, water damage, and “products purchased from third party retailers such as eBay.” Amazon is an authorized channel in the sense that RTIC sells there; keep the receipt. The RTIC warranty explained goes line by line, including the historical term changes The Cooler Zone documents.
On parts, RTIC is the best-documented brand on the site: its hard-cooler accessories page lists T-latches, gaskets in every Ultra-Tough size, drain plugs, rope handles, feet, a tie-down kit, baskets, dividers and cushions. Are RTIC coolers good?
The Ultra-Tough hard coolers are the best value on this site: 5-year term, full parts list, 4.6–5.5 measured days at OutdoorGearLab. The soft coolers (1 year) and drinkware (90 days) are a different proposition.
What is the difference between RTIC Ultra-Tough and Ultra-Light?
Ultra-Tough is rotomolded, heavier, 5-year term. Ultra-Light is injection-molded, up to 30% lighter, 3-year term, and measured more ice (5.8 vs 4.6–5.5 days).
How long is the RTIC cooler warranty?
