Two jobs
A truck-bed cooler is a piece of cargo. It needs tie-down slots or a shape that a ratchet strap holds, a lid that locks (a padlock through a hasp is the difference between a cooler and a gift to whoever walks past), and a shell that does not warp after a July afternoon on black bedliner. A road-trip cooler is a piece of furniture: it lives behind a seat or between two, gets opened from the front forty times a day, and cannot be taller than the seat back. The same cooler rarely does both, which is why the Tundra Haul and the Roadie 24 are both on this page and are nothing alike.

Heat, lids and warranties
Ice at 80 mph is the same as ice anywhere: air melts it. A bed cooler in full sun on a 100°F day loses hours it would not lose in a garage, and the fix is a pre-chill, a full load and a blanket over it. How to keep ice longer ranks each step. For a multi-day drive, dry ice in a rated cooler (OutdoorGearLab lists the Tundra Haul as dry-ice compatible; Engel says its High Performance coolers are) holds frozen food the whole way.

Buyer's guide: cargo, not furniture
Strap it, lock it
Tie-down slots or a shape a ratchet strap grips; a hasp for a padlock. RTIC sells a tie-down kit for its Ultra-Tough coolers; the Tundra Haul has molded slots.
Measure the seat back
A cab cooler taller than the seat blocks the mirror. The Roadie 24 is 17.5 in; most 45-quart coolers are 15–16 in tall but 26 in long, which is the other problem.
Buy the rotomolded shell for the bed
That is what the 5-year to lifetime terms are for. The injection-molded RTIC Ultra-Light 52 held ice longer in the lab and belongs in a trunk, on a 3-year term.

For fewer hours than the tests measured. Pre-chill, fill it, cover it with a blanket, and expect a day or two less than the sealed-indoor figure.
Does heat void a cooler warranty?
Warranties cover defects, not abuse or normal wear; a sun-warped lid can be argued either way. Rotomolded shells are the ones makers warrant for 5 years to life.
