What Lifetime publishes, and what it doesn't
Published: 55 quarts, “room for 60 cans with ice,” “Up To 7-Day Ice Retention,” heavy-duty polyethylene, a stainless steel hinge rod, two rubber latches, “Certified to Withstand a Bear For Up To an Hour,” and “5-year warranty.” Not published on the page we could read: empty weight, exterior and interior dimensions, insulation thickness, whether the shell is rotomolded or blow-molded, and whether latches or a gasket are sold as parts. Not found anywhere: a third-party ice-retention test. We searched the publishers we cite and found none for this model as of 2026-09-21.
That matters because Lifetime's 7-day claim is the same shape as RTIC's 7-day claim on the 65 (measured 5.5) and Engel's 10-day claim (measured 4.5). Claims run about two-thirds to one-half of measurements in our sources. A reasonable guess for the Lifetime is three and a half to five days; a reasonable guess is not a number, so the card says unverified. Is a Lifetime cooler as good as a Yeti?
On warranty term, both say 5 years. On evidence, no: Yeti's Tundras have measured ice figures and a parts catalog; the Lifetime 55 has neither on any page we could find.
How long does a Lifetime cooler keep ice?
Lifetime says up to 7 days. No third-party test was found as of 2026-09-21, so the site scores it as unverified. Comparable claims from RTIC and Engel measured at half to two-thirds.
Does Lifetime sell replacement latches?
We could not find a parts page. RTIC and Yeti both sell latches, gaskets and plugs; that is a real difference for a cooler you keep five years.
What's the best cheap cooler with a 5-year warranty?
The RTIC 45 Ultra-Tough at $239 has the term, a measured test and parts. The Lifetime 55 is cheaper with the term alone.
